Corporate Citizenship

Blackbaud is a community of people who care, who seek to help nonprofits drive positive change in the world. Through our corporate citizenship, we strive to make a difference both through what we do as a company and how we serve as individual people, personally and professionally.

  • Dan Helfman

    Volunteer, American Heart Association
    Read More

    Dan Helfman

Dan Helfman lost his father to a heart attack less than a week before his twelfth birthday, so the devastating consequences of heart disease became apparent to him at an early age. Since 2009, he volunteered for the organization’s annual Heart Walk in Lincoln, NE. For the last two years, he has organized group volunteer days with his Blackbaud coworkers to set up the Heart Walk itself. The work is satisfying not only from a cardiovascular standpoint (moving chairs and tables, hanging banners, and preparing tents for event activities - all constitute an excellent workout!), but also from an emotional one. He looks forward to honoring his father through many more years of continued work with the American Heart Association.

As chair, he works closely with the Executive Director in planning, strategy and fundraising not to mention chairing board meetings and reviewing finances. He also works to create marketing partnerships that focus on the organisation’s brand and will promote Campaign internationally. Their annual Big Draw festival operates in 20 countries worldwide, with over 1,200 events in the UK alone where more than 200,000 people take part. The festival touches families, children, health, education, vulnerable and disadvantaged adults and helps build communities, all this with just a pencil and paper! He’s proud and humbled to be involved and contributes as much as he can because the Campaign inspires everyone it touches.

    Jacquelyn Tolliver

Jacquelyn Tolliver volunteers at the DC Central Union Mission where there are many homeless or jobless men participating in a program to get them back on their feet. She and a couple of her friends go every few weeks to help the men create or update resumes that they can use for job applications. Each guest gets 15 hard copies of their resume at the end of the session and if they have an email address they receive a soft copy too. Jacquelyn’s mom instilled in her the importance of volunteering and giving back to her community. Her favorite example, every Mother’s Day her mom’s gift was that they serve a meal at a local homeless shelter together as a family.

    Nikhil Kumar

Grow. Share. Prepare. — Nikhil strongly believes in access to healthy and sustainable foods for all people. The benefits to the local economy and farmers, our communities and families, and ultimately to our own health make the Sustainable Food Center’s mission compelling to him. By participating as a board member and a member of the Development and Communications Committee, volunteering his time (and encouraging others) at farmers markets and capital campaign events, supporting Farm to Work in Austin, and attending great local Sustainable Food Center events (like Farm to Plate), Nikhil’s work with the Sustainable Food Center enables him to impact his community’s food ecosystem in a very positive way!

  • Amy Van de Water

Serves as a one-on-one aide at Camp Sunshine Read More

    Amy Van de Water

Amy Van de Water serves as a one-on-one aide at Camp Sunshine, a retreat for children with life threatening illnesses and for their families. Amy first went to the camp as a guest in 2006 after her niece was diagnosed with a brain tumor and saw, firsthand, the care given not just to the child, but also to the family. That experience led to her long-term commitment as a volunteer, staying with one camper throughout a entire week’s experience.

Environment

Blackbaud strives to be a responsible member of the community, doing our part to protect our natural resources. We work, both as a company and through individual effort, to preserve the environment by implementing an array of green business practices and by educating employees. Greenbaud, our employee-led environmental corps, offers environmentally focused initiatives such as oyster bed redevelopment projects, beach sweeps, and a community garden effort called Sprouts.

We are proud to participate in the Charleston Green Business Challenge, looking to the program as a way to both audit and enhance our environmental practices each year. Blackbaud has consistently received top honors since the challenge kicked off in 2010.
